Robin’s Hands
on Statue with Flower Mask

By Nick van Tiem
Photographer (NL)

A statue at the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam. The sculpture, despite being decorated with a flower mask, reminds us of an outdated view on who runs the world. On top of the figure are the hands of queer artist Robin Ramos, an artist who challenges the status quo and represents belief in an inclusive future.

Nick Van Tiem is an Amsterdam-based photographer using his craft to explore new cultures and his own interpretations and misinterpretations of the world. His work ranges from very honest intimate documentary like portraiture to graphic narratives involving a distinctive colour palette. On the search for elements that add to the story the kind of awe and curiosity that builds a scene, Nick’s photography is characterised by unusual faces, unique and otherworldly locations and powerful angles.
